With a stable design team, Renault power, Red Bull's gearbox technology and - for the first time - KERS, chief technical Mike Gascoyne is optimistic the CT01 should allow Heikki Kovalainen and Jarno Trulli to take the fight to the midfield, as he explained in an interview with the team

2011-10-25 17:57:00 |
| Lotus tester Karun Chandhok has lost out on the chance to race in front of his home crowd at this weekend's inaugural Indian event, after the team decided to retain regular line-up Heikki Kovalainen and Jarno Trulli for the New Delhi race. Chandhok, however, will be in action in the T128 during Friday's opening practice session.
I am very excited about driving at the new Buddh International Circuit in FP1 in front of my home crowd and while I am obviously disappointed that I won't have the chance to race on Sunday, I accept the team's decision to opt for the experience and talent they have at their disposal with Jarno and Heikki, explained the 27 year-old.

Jarno Trulli - new man or past master? |
2011-09-06 17:05:00 |
| This weekend will see Jarno Trulli start his home race for the 15th time in his Formula One career. Trulli insists it won't be his last, but with Lotus yet to make an announcement on their 2012 driver line-up that hasn't stopped the media bombarding him with questions about his future.
Trulli has had a tough season. It started promisingly enough with a 13th place in Australia - still Lotus's best position this year - and on paper his race results have been superior to Kovalainen's. Unfortunately that is far from the whole story.

The session began under the threat of rain, which fortunately held off to enable all of the runners bar HRT, whose cars were still not ready, to run on both the hard and the soft Pirellis. There were plenty of off-track incidents, centring around Timo Glock, Sebastien Buemi, Vitaly Petrov, Heikki Kovalainen, Adrian Sutil and Rubens Barrichello, but nobody did any damage as they explored the limits.

The first time Lotus is racing in Malaysia which is our home base and we have received a tremendous amount of support over the past week, so a special moment today getting the cars out and getting Fairuz (Fauzy) in the car as well. Both Jarno (Trulli) and Heikki did a superb job in the second session, so overall I can't wipe the grin off my face. A good day.
