Wurz returns to Williams as driver mentor |
2012-02-21 18:23:00 |
| Williams have announced that former driver Alexander Wurz will return to the British team as a driver mentor. Wurz will start his new role at this week's Barcelona test and also plans to accompany the team to races this season to assist racers Pastor Maldonado and Bruno Senna.
This is a great initiative by Williams and highlights just how hard the team is pushing to optimise its performance, said Wurz. Throughout my career as a sportsman, which started at the age of 12 in BMX racing, includes over a decade in Formula One and is still ongoing (racing in the World Endurance Championship), I am lucky to have gained so much experience.

I feel very privileged that Williams has selected me as one of their race drivers, said the Brazilian. The team has a great heritage and I hope I can help write a good chapter in their history. The evaluation process has been intense and methodical but the time I have spent in the factory has demonstrated that the team has great people and all the resources needed to achieve better things this season.

Practice One - Webber sets strong Sepang standard |
2011-04-08 13:00:00 |
| Mark Webber sent shivers down the spines of rivals here in Sepang this morning as he lapped his Red Bull RB7 1.665s faster than anyone else. Lewis Hamilton got closest in his McLaren, but his 1m 39.316s best was light years behind Webber's 1m 37.651s.
A late improvement put Michael Schumacher third for Mercedes on 1m 39.791s, then came a bunch of runners in the 1m 40s. This comprised Nico Hulkenberg, once again taking Paul di Resta's Force India seat for the opening session, with 1m 40.377s, then Pastor Maldonado who was up there all morning for Williams on 1m 40.443s, late-improving Felipe Massa on 1m 40.453s for Ferrari, Nick Heidfeld on 1m 40.525s for Renault

Practice One - Webber leads Red Bull one-two in Australia |
2011-03-25 12:36:00 |
| The 2011 F1 season finally kicked off this morning in Melbourne's Albert Park - with a bang. Test driver Karun Chandhok got as far as Turn Four on his out lap before losing grip and cannoning into the wall, severely damaging his Lotus T128.
After that, it took more than half an hour before Pastor Maldonado in the Williams became the first man to set a lap time. Soon, however, Red Bull moved to the front as expected, with Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel taking it in turns to go fastest until the Australian slammed in a 1m 26.831s best right at the end to beat the German's 1m 27.158s by 0.327s.

2011-03-11 19:11:00 |
| With very little pre-season testing time at their disposal, Formula One rookies have to climb a very steep learning curve ahead of their Grand Prix debut. Williams' Pastor Maldonado, however, seems to be taking it all in his stride, even the KERS problem that limited his running in the FW33 on Wednesday
