| Williams have announced on Tuesday that Bruno Senna will contest the 2012 FIA Formula One World Championship for the team. Senna, who is the nephew of three-time world champion Ayrton Senna, replaces Rubens Barrichello as Pastor Maldonado's team mate.
I feel very privileged that Williams has selected me as one of their race drivers, said the Brazilian. The team has a great heritage and I hope I can help write a good chapter in their history. The evaluation process has been intense and methodical but the time I have spent in the factory has demonstrated that the team has great people and all the resources needed to achieve better things this season.

The session began under the threat of rain, which fortunately held off to enable all of the runners bar HRT, whose cars were still not ready, to run on both the hard and the soft Pirellis. Schumacher's best at the Spanish circuit, a 1m 21.249s, was over three tenths of a second quicker than second-placed Fernando Alonso in the Ferrari.
With Schumacher's team mate Nico Rosberg in third, it was a good day all round for Mercedes GP. Renault's Nick Heidfeld was fourth, ahead of Williams' Rubens Barrichello and Sauber's Kamui Kobayashi. Kobayashi carried out a qualifying simulation in the morning followed by a race simulation after lunch. He covered 98 laps, but his day was cut short by a drive shaft issue.
