McLaren ended the second session of practice first and second in Albert Park on Friday evening, with Jenson Button pipping team mate Lewis Hamilton by 0.132s as only 0.429s covered the top five. The session began under the threat of rain, which fortunately held off to enable all of the runners bar HRT, whose cars were still not ready, to run on both the hard and the soft Pirellis. Virgin's Timo Glock is expected to miss next week's final pre-season test at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya after undergoing surgery to remove his appendix on Monday. Glock is currently recovering in a hospital in Switzerland following the routine operation. “I can confirm that Timo had an operation yesterday to remove his appendix after a sudden case of appendicitis,” explained Virgin team principal John Booth. “The procedure was routine and Timo is recovering well in a Swiss hospital where he is likely to remain for a further 24 hours.
