| He may have been away from the sport for the last two seasons but that didn't stop 2007 world champion Kimi Raikkonen from topping the timesheets, as this year's opening test got underway in Jerez on Tuesday. Raikkonen clocked a best time of 1m 19.670s at the Spanish circuit in the new Lotus E20.
Paul di Resta was second in Force India's 2012 car, the VJM05, ahead of Nico Rosberg, who was third in the 2011-spec Mercedes. Rosberg's team mate Michael Schumacher was also in action in the MGP W02 during the day and took the sixth slot. The team focused on testing Pirelli's 2012 tyres.

| Force India are optimistic that their 2012 car, the VJM05, will be ready in time for next month's first test of the year. After completing the FIA crash tests before the Christmas break, the Silverstone-based team are well on schedule to join their rivals at February's opening session.
In a change to the rules for 2012, the sport's governing body specified that all new cars must pass every crash test before taking to the track, which prompted Force India to ready their new car earlier than they have done traditionally.

| Force India have revealed the winners of their driver academy search. The team launched their 'One from a Billion Hunt' back in April to find and support young Indian talent. Following regional and then national finals, the remaining ten participants were whittled down to three at a grand finale at Silverstone last week.
Fourteen year-old Arjun Maini from Bangalore was chosen as the winner, with Chennai-born Tarun Reddy, also 14, took the first runner-up slot. The second runner-up slot, meanwhile, was claimed by 13 year-old Jehan Daruvala from Mumbai. The trio were selected by an expert panel which included Force India deputy team principal, Robert Fernley, former team boss Eddie Jordan, Lewis Hamilton's father Anthony Hamilton and Force India reserve Nico Hulkenberg.
