Ferrari confident aggressive approach will yield results |
2012-02-03 20:28:00 |
| After spending the last few seasons playing catch-up to Red Bull and McLaren, Ferrari were under pressure to pull something special out of the bag for 2012. And after revolutionising the way they approach the design of their cars, the Italian team are certain the newly-launched F2012 is capable of returning them to their championship-winning heydays.
The Scuderia endured a miserable 2011, winning just one race and finishing the year 275 points behind eventual champions Red Bull and 122 behind long-time rivals McLaren. After much reflection, Ferrari decided their recent disappointments had been largely caused by their too-conventional design approach and have opted to be much more aggressive this year.

| They have gathered in the Dolomites to meet and greet the media and sample some winter sports, but away from the slopes Ferrari are using their annual 'Wrooom' ski event to analyse their disappointing 2011 season and outline their strategy for this year's campaign.
The Italian team struggled to match both Red Bull and McLaren in 2011 and, although driver Fernando Alonso claimed a well-deserved victory at Silverstone, they eventually finished a distant third in the constructors' stakes. They are therefore determined to achieve much more in 2012.

Practice One - Webber fastest for Red Bull at Interlagos |
2011-11-25 22:53:00 |
| Seven-tenths of a second separated the top six drivers after Friday morning's first practice session at Interlagos. Mark Webber set the pace for Red Bull with 1m 13.811s, but he was only 0.014s ahead of Jenson Button, who posted 1m 13.825s, and 0.150s ahead of Lewis Hamilton, who lapped in 1m 13.961s in the second McLaren. Hamilton aborted a final effort to go quicker.
Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel just failed to break into the 1m 13s with 1m 14.025s, leaving the top four just 0.214s apart, while the Ferraris had a mixed day. On his 100th appearance for them, Felipe Massa was fifth on 1m 14.507s, with Fernando Alonso sixth on 1m 14.541s. The Spaniard took a long while to get going, then stopped near the end after slowing in Turn One with similar engine troubles to those he experienced in India.

Brazil preview - intense Interlagos hosts fight for final spoils |
2011-11-24 19:37:00 |
| Back in 2009 Red Bull's Mark Webber dominated the Brazilian Grand Prix and would dearly love to close out a winless 2011 season with a repeat victory, as he bids to overhaul McLaren's Jenson Button and Ferrari's Fernando Alonso for second overall.
Brazil is one of the best races of the year, the Australian says. It's a track which reminds me of Brands Hatch and the Formula Ford racing there because it's a like a bowl in terms of the atmosphere. The Brazilian people love their motorsport and are extremely passionate about it, obviously off the back of Piquet, Senna, Fittipaldi and Rubens Barrichello - they've had some really great drivers.

McLaren not expecting radical shift from Pirelli in 2012 |
2011-11-23 23:11:00 |
| Official tyre supplier Pirelli have made no secret of their plans to push forward the development of their rubber ahead of the 2012 season. But McLaren are confident there won't be sweeping compound changes and instead expect the Italian firm to build on their excellent debut season with solid progress.
We have all really enjoyed the racing this year where we had tyres that the drivers had to be quite cautious with or at least occasionally trade outright pace for longevity, explained McLaren managing director Jonathan Neale in a Vodafone McLaren Mercedes phone-in. That has added a dynamic to the challenge for the drivers.
