| Toro Rosso followed in the footsteps of Sauber and unveiled the car with which they will contest the 2012 FIA Formula One World Championship at Jerez on Monday afternoon. The Ferrari-engined STR7 will make its on-track debut on Tuesday morning, when this week's opening pre-season test gets underway at the Spanish track.
The Italian team's 2012-spec line-up, Australian Daniel Ricciardo and Frenchman Jules-Eric Vergne, were in attendance at the pit-lane launch. Toro Rosso hope the new car - and new signings - will help them establish a firmer foothold in the midfield, after they finished eighth in the 2011 standings.

| Caterham were first out of the blocks last week with their CT01, but this week the 2012 launch season begins in earnest, with McLaren, Ferrari and Force India all set to take the wraps off their new machines.
McLaren will unveil the MP4-27 at their Woking base on Wednesday, while Friday will see Ferrari reveal their new challenger at Fiorano and Force India do the same at Silverstone. Lotus, Sauber, Toro Rosso and Red Bull will also launch their cars before the first pre-season test gets underway at Jerez in Spain next Tuesday (February 7).

| Toro Rosso are expected to launch their 2012 car at the first pre-season test, which will get underway at the Spanish circuit of Jerez on February 7. The TR7 completed the FIA's crash test programme on Wednesday.
Having previously passed various static crash tests, today, our new car, the TR7, passed all remaining FIA crash tests, the team explained in a statement on their official website. These are compulsory for all cars that will compete in the Formula 1 World Championship and this year they were even more stringent, as the sport's governing body continues to pursue safety as one of its main aims in the sport.

| Red Bull have announced that Sebastien Buemi will become their test and reserve for the 2012 season, supporting racers Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber. Buemi has spent the last three years competing for sister team Toro Rosso but was dropped from the Italian squad at the end of 2011.
It's good to remain with Red Bull for another year and have this opportunity with the world championship-winning team, said the 23 year-old Swiss driver. I would prefer to be driving at the races of course, but working with Red Bull Racing on the development of their car and providing them with feedback throughout the season is the next best thing.

But eventually things improved enough to make the effort worthwhile, with the caveat that everyone wanted to preserve rubber.

| Toro Rosso's Sebastien Buemi has been punished by the German race stewards for his collision with Renault's Nick Heidfeld during Sunday's Nurburgring race. Buemi receives a five-place grid penalty for the next round in Hungary.
After a post-race investigation, the stewards decided the Swiss driver was at fault for the accident with Heidfeld, which occurred on the approach to chicane. Although Buemi managed to continue, the German, whose Renault made contact with the right-rear tyre of the Toro Rosso as he attempted to overtake, retired from the race.
